Large White Kitchen

Design Notes: The large island offers generous space for entertaining and casual family dining. Limestone flooring in shades of charcoal, tan, and gold contrasts the white cabinetry. The wall across the room from the sink now houses a coffee bar, microwave drawer, icemaker, and a large walnut hutch containing the refrigerator.
Products and Materials: Calcutta Gold marble countertops, Grabill Cabinets with White Dove finish, Wolf range, Miele dishwasher and Rohl sinks.

Design Notes: Stone walls and floors, a glass backsplash, and wood cabinetry help this kitchen blend into and enhance the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home. A backlit patterned glass backsplash behind the rangetop gives the appearance of water and a feeling of serenity. A Wright-inspired mullion door and the twig-like refrigerator handle add to the distinctive design.

A High-Rise Farmhouse Kitchen

Design Notes: Located in a high-rise, this kitchen gets its farmhouse feel from the use of metal, stone and wood. The homeowner chose an onyx countertop lit from below for the L-shaped island’s bar top; it also has granite and wood counter surfaces. Red and green stained cherry cabinets with pewter chicken wire inserts complement the paneled built-in refrigerator and freezer, designed to look like an antique oak ice box.

Design Notes: The restaurateurs who own this home sought restaurant style and convenience in their kitchen. A circular sink station built into the island, a stainless steel tile backsplash, floating walnut shelves, and textured gray cabinets add drama, while a coffee station, steam oven and warming drawers add functionality.
Products and Materials: Gaggenau appliances; KWC water station and Eve faucets; Mirage stainless steel tile backsplash; Leicht cabinets in Esprit Basalt Gray, CaesarStone quartz counters in Concrete; BR-111 Brazilian cherry flooring.

Design Notes: This kitchen incorporates antiques the homeowners collected: vintage chandeliers, a vintage brass faucet, 1800s-era stained glass windows, and a backsplash featuring 100-year-old blue and white German tile framed by sections of black marble. Detailed moldings, wide windowsills, plate racks, and a large dramatic mantel also show off their collectibles.

Design Notes: Remodeled along with the rest of the 1950s split-level home, this kitchen received a contemporary green makeover. A peninsula and an island topped with black granite and crosscut bamboo butcher-block counters separate the kitchen from the living and dining rooms. Energy Star appliances and dark-stained cabinets made from PureBond plywood contribute to the sustainable sensibility.

A Colorful Pullman Kitchen

Design Notes: A 2-foot bump-out and restoration of the original, higher ceiling enlivened this Pullman-style kitchen. The use of copper, hickory, antique bronze, bead board, and granite, as well as a tile backsplash that alludes to the weave in a basket, create a medley of texture, sheen and color that gives visual punch to this small space.
Products and Materials: Premier Custom-Built cabinets in light yellow painted maple and flax-stained rustic butternut, with bead board in dusty teal; Vangura Wild West granite countertops, Perrin & Rowe faucet, Kohler sink, Trikeenan Tileworks tile.

Design Notes: Set in a Cape Cod vacation home with a view of the Atlantic Ocean, this kitchen features white painted cabinets and bead board, green glass knobs and pulls, and a white porcelain farm sink. Reclaimed wide-plank pine flooring and the reclaimed beech wood used for the island countertop add warmth and vintage appeal.

Design Notes: Silk, marble, and crystal adorn this small kitchen set in an 1800s Federal-style home. Taupe silk wall covering draws out the colored veins and shading in the marble countertop and subway tile backsplash. Dark Jacobean-stained hardwood flooring contrasts the white raised panel cabinetry with crystal knobs.
Products and Materials: Calcutta Gold marble countertop and tile; Heirloom Cabinetry in Frosty White; Grohe faucet; Blanco Blancowave sink.

Design Notes: Two doorways and just 90 square feet of space made this kitchen a design challenge. A jade-colored glass tile backsplash with a horizontal pattern helps to visually broaden the room, while integrated appliances contribute to the open feeling.
