2011 NKBA Design Award: Small Kitchens – Third Place

A Japanese-Inspired Kitchen

The Kitchen Consultant
Long Beach, CA
Designer: Dana Jones, CKD

Design Notes: Once a dim and cramped galley kitchen, this remodeled space takes cues from Japanese design in its achievement of horizontal flow, airy feel and improved use of space. Bamboo cabinetry with a horizontal grain complements the horizontal glass tile backsplash. High windows and a light, neutral color scheme offer a fresh look.

Products and Materials:
Wright custom cabinetry made from Plyboo edge grain and natural, stained alder; DCS cooktop and oven, Cambrian Black granite countertop with leather finish, Blanco sink and faucet, Oak flooring, Kozo Lighting oil-rubbed bronze pendant, glass mosaic backsplash tile by Imperial Tile & Stone in non-iridescent Lime-olicious Gigis Groovy Stiix, Zephyr ventilation hood.
